Booking a train ticket in China – going city to city (What to do , what to expect)

My dad wanted to visit Hangzhou, so I booked us train tickets from Shanghai. I didn’t buy train tickets from third-party sites; I went directly to China Railway website.

Not all train stations look the same, but here is what we saw at Shanghainan(上海南) station .

why you need your passport

our train number was C411 so we needed to head to gate 2A

also got notifications
train has stops so it’s important to check before hand which stop comes before the stop you get down so you won’t make a mistake

made it to Hangzhou!

all photos were taken using an iPhone 13 Pro Max

It’s pretty much the same concept when we were in Hangzhou and heading back to Shanghai.

DON’T FORGET TO BRING YOUR PASSPORT FOR VERIFICATION!! You need it as they will check before you go inside the station, go inside the train, go out of the station. They will scan it and your train and seat information will be inside their system.

It would be a plus if you know how to speak Mandarin, but don’t worry if you can’t communicate well. The staff were nice enough to explain things to us when we asked questions.
