I’ve been seeing this famous hotteok place on my FYP for a while now. People always said it was in Hongdae, but I could never find it, so I eventually gave up and thought, “Okay, never mind. I don’t want to make the effort to look for it.”
Apparently, it’s inside Mangwon Market. Technically, they’re not wrong since the area is near Hongdae, but it’s not really within the Hongdae area that most people think of when they see it on social media.
I wanted my friend to experience visiting a traditional market, so I added Mangwon Market to our itinerary and made sure we visited during the day since I hadn’t really gotten to explore it before.
We just happened to spot this yellow sign, and I immediately went, “Wait… that’s the famous hotteok place”. The crowd shocked me, and I saw the line grow even longer when we left.
Closest station here : Mangwon Station (line 6)

I wasn’t able to take note of how we found it, but here’s the location from Naver Maps.

There were many options for the hotteok, but I told my friend we could get the original one (seed) and share it so she could try it too and we could save more space for lunch.

My friend lined up while I joined the online queue at a restaurant we found on Naver to avoid waiting long. By the time I came back, she had already paid and was about to get our order.

It was good, but it made me miss the hotteok in Busan. It’s still the best in my opinion!!
