Gijang Crab Market (기장 대게시장) – (How to go, what to expect, and what we ordered)

✨2022 UPDATE✨

First day back in Busan and immediately had to visit Gijang Crab Market (기장 대게시장)! I was dreaming about their crab roe fried rice for so long so it had to be the first one I eat as soon as I went back 🤤.

Although we stayed in a different place this 2022, we still rode the same bus and went down the same stop as before (bus 1003, you can scroll down!)

The difference between my 2019 trip and 2022 is where we ate so I’m updating this blog post.

I’m not sure if the restaurant closed down already but there were tarpaulin covers all over. I’m not fluent enough to ask if the restaurant closed down or if it was only closed for the day.

The abalone stall was still there and it was cheaper this time around! We were able to buy the abalone at 2,500 won each.

We went around the market for a while and ended up eating at the restaurant across from where we ate before. I think the name of the restaurant is 총각대게. They also have the cooking charge of 4,000 won / person.

We were given 2 snow crabs but I said I think we can’t finish 2 huge ones 😭 so he gave us 1 medium sized snow crab instead!
we were asked to head down where they will serve the food!

what the place looks like!
We were asked if we would like side dishes, I didn’t get to hear or understand 100% since I got scared because the lady told me to speak in mandarin if I know how to (in a rude ish way😭)
It took a while for our orders to arrive but it was worth the wait! We bought the abalone from the abalone stall again and asked them to have it steamed together with the crab!
😍
we were so lucky that the crab roe fried rice was given to us for free🥹
My mom and I agreed that this crab roe fried rice was even better than the first one we had!

We spent my mom’s birthday during our trip to Busan and knowing that she loves crab, I tried to do my research about where you can eat crab in Busan.

Tha’s how I ended up with Gijang Crab Market (기장 대게시장).

How to go to Gijang Crab Market from Canvas Hostel:

Take bus 1003 (bus stop from Canvas Hostel for bus 1003 can be found here)

get down at Gijang Market

as soon as you get down the station face right and walk straight

turn left on the first corner
IMG_3178
and YOU ARE ALREADY AT GIJANG CRAB MARKET!
IMG_3179
There are a lot of places
IMG_3181
that offers
IMG_3182
seafood
IMG_3212
but after walking, we decided to have lunch here
IMG_3186
this is their sign and their store name is 청해왕대게
IMG_3183
outside the place, they can only sell male crabs and cannot sell female crabs BUT WE WERE SURPRISED THAT THEY TASTED SO GOOD
IMG_3213
the restaurant is beside a stall that sells FRESH ABALONE (roughly 3,000 won/each)
IMG_3187
we chose a crab and chose some abalone and the staff steamed them for us (there is a cooking charge of 4,000 won/person and you can ask them to steam the abalone that you will buy from the store beside them)
IMG_3189
we went up the second floor
IMG_3190
which is actually a place where you can eat what you ordered!
IMG_3192
they’ll give this to you after you order. you’ll show this to the person that will greet you at the 2nd floor
IMG_3193
and they will set up the table for you

FRESH ABALONE
IMG_3211
FOR ROUGHLY $3 EACH
IMG_3207
BUT THIS HAS TO BE ONE OF MY FAVORITE DISHES! We also ordered Crab Roe Fried Rice
IMG_3204
and it WAS THE BOMB
IMG_3205
LIKE I WILL DEF COME BACK FOR THIS

ADDED FISH ROE SO THAT IT WOULD BE MORE DELICIOUS
