Getting an international driver's license from Manila (What to expect)

Before our trip to Jeju, a lot of people already told me that I needed an international driver’s license so that we could drive around. There are two ways you could get your international driver’s license from AAP: submitting your application online or by going to their main branch.

My dad and I decided to go to the main branch so that we wouldn’t need to provide an authorization letter, and we could claim the license on the same day.

It took us more than an hour to apply and claim the license, and there weren’t a lot of people at that time.

There were 4 units where you could enter your information, and there is a staff that you could approach should you have any questions.

Things to bring –

2 pieces of 2×2 photos
actual driver’s license
photocopy of your driver’s license

While we were entering our information, there was a question about which countries we would be using the license. We noticed there was a separate box about driving in Japan, and when I asked my dad if we should get it, he said sure why not.

We didn’t know that adding Japan would incur us an additional 600 PHP, so in total we paid 4,800 PHP. A mistake we made since we didn’t have any plans to drive in Japan.

After entering our information, there is a corresponding number, and the screen will flash your first initial and last name.

There are 4 counters, 2 are allotted for the cashier. You can pay via cash or credit cards only.

After waiting for them to laminate our licenses, they were finally handed over to us! They gave us 2 since there is a specific one for Japan! We had to label them when we got home, or else we’d get confused.

They also advised us that we need BOTH our Philippine driver’s license and international driver’s license when we’ll be driving internationally.
