Majang Meat Market (마장 축산물시장) (How to go, what to expect)

I haven’t had Hanwoo beef even I have visited Korea a lot. I told my parents about Hanwoo beef, and they told me that we should try it during this trip.

The first thing on my mind is to head over to Majang Meat Market for good Hanwoo beef.

Naver Maps showed us that we could go to Majang Meat Market via subway, but the walk is far, or via bus. Of course, we chose the option with fewer walks – riding the bus.

This was how it looked like if we chose the subway 🤪.

Coming from our hotel, it was just one bus ride to Majang Meat Market!

we had to walk for a bit to reach the bus stop but the weather was good so we didn’t mind!

How to go to Antique Mall stop from our hotel.

view as soon as we go out
all you have to do is just face right
and keep on walkings traight

yes still straight
you’ll cross a big pedestraian
all you have to do is follow the road straight
you’ll see a bus stop on your left
made it!

Rode bus 145 and get down at Majang Livestock Products Market.

If you look across the street from the bus stop, you’ll immediately see the entrance!

We were overwhelmed with everyone offering the meat.

While walking, a Filipina caught us talking in Filipino! Apparently, she has a stall inside Majang and has been living in Korea for more than 20 years already.

this is her stall
and this is Ate Violata

Ate Violata told us about the different sellers in Majang Meat Market and told us that she could go with us where we could buy Hanwoo for a cheaper price as well as a restaurant (it’s owned by her in-laws) where we could eat without a time limit.

We told her we would look around since it was our first time but my parents were already leaning towards asking help from her.

gosh the marbling

Our mistake from here : we did not request different parts of Hanwoo meat. Both those are “듬심” or sirloin. I asked Ate Violata what part are those and she just kept on mentioning 듬심 🫠”

After paying for those, she brought us where we could cook the meat!

Before Ate Violata left, she asked us what type of soup we wanted, spicy or not. We mentioned not spicy, thinking it was for free as it usually is for some restaurants.

Wrong, I paid for it when they showed me the bill 💀.

We only realized our first mistake of not asking for different parts when we were already at the restaurant. Please don’t make the same mistake as us!

It took us almost 2 hours to finish everything since it was more than 2 kg of meat for three people. Talk about a very heavy meal!

When I got the bill, I also saw that the cooking fee was 6,000 won when my dad saw from different videos and read through different blogs that those restaurants inside Majang Meat Market only cost 5,000 won.

first line – cooking fee
second line – soju
third line – rice
last line – the soup

all photos were taken using an iPhone 13 Pro Max / Fujifilm X-T20 18-55 mm

I got shocked at this point since I was already expecting the soup to be free and the cooking fee to be 5,000 won.

Our mistake from here : we did not ASK how much was cooking fee was so that we could compare. There is nothing wrong with asking especially if you already have a benchmark of how much it should be.

I appreciate Ate Violata’s help since we really didn’t know anything upon arriving but it was our mistake of not having the initiative to ask. Afterall, we’re using hard-earned money to pay.

Would we still go back? Definitely! But the next time we will go there, we will take more initiative in asking questions and not just following someone 100%.
